FEATURED ARTIST OF THE MONTH FOR JULY 2011

The featured artist for July 2011 is Heidi Burrowes of Healing Knits Canada.  Heidi has been a yarner since she was a child, and has been fascinated with the way that a simple string can become such an intricate, and well loved item, being cuddled and loved by many.

After completing the 2 year Shamanism Program at Northern Edge Algonquin in the summer of 2009, she began exploring the use of shamanic journeying in the creation of her knitted pieces.  In journey's she began to dream of fully finished knitted items, each complete with a special story.  The spirits of the yarn began to be heard when they spoke, and are now an important part of the way a piece is created.

The video below features an almost completed poncho.  The tassles along the bottom of the poncho represent the cycle of the moon, going from black as a new moon, to white as a full moon and back.
